It's not always easy to quit using tobacco
This is true because of the addictive nature of nicotine, a key ingredient in tobacco products. The addiction is similar to cocaine, morphine, or alcohol.
It's important to quit using tobacco.
Like cigarettes, these products contain cancer-causing agents and other toxins which may cause cancer and other health problems which affect the heart, lungs, blood vessels, mouth, pharynx, and other parts of the body.
Here are some suggestions on HOW TO QUIT!
- Set a quit date (ideally within two (2) weeks).
- Tell family, friends, and co-workers about quitting and request their understanding and support.
- Anticipate challenges to planned quit attempt, particularly during the critical first few weeks.
- Remove tobacco products from the environment.
- If you cannot quit using these steps, contact your dentist or physician for assistance.
- If you slip up and start using smokeless tobacco again, don't beat yourself up about the downfall. Try again. Think of all you have to gain by quitting.
